Takalik Abaj is an archaeological, Pre-classical Mayan site is located in the department of Retalhuleu. In the Mayan language "Quiche" means "standing stone".

The place was probably a religious (ceremonial) and commercial center, consisting of stelae and carved stone heads with "Olmec" influence.
