One of the best treks in Guatemala. 3 days through villages, forests and past farms and eventually the best view of the most beautiful lake in the world, Lago de Atitlán.

Day 1: We start this day by picking you up at your hotel or home in Xela. It is our intention to do the longest distance this day. The trip starts in Xecam near Cantel (altitude about 2450 meters), just 35 minutes from Xela. We start with a heavy part. In the first two hours we have to climb to 3050 meters. Then we descend mainly in a wooded area with pine trees and coffee farms. The last part of this descent is the hardest (30 minutes of very slippery slope), before we reach the Nahualate river at 1400m. We can camp near the river or we can climb for 45 minutes to reach the village of K'omo Noj.

Day 2:  The purpose of the next part of the journey is to reach Santa Clara la Laguna, for which we will need approximately 4 to 6 hours Here we’ll do some shopping for dinner and breakfast tomorrow. Dag 3: We do not have to get up early to experience the spectacular sunrise over the lake. Meanwhile, the guide will prepare breakfast. After breakfast we take our time to pack up and we will begin our descent to the lake. The route to San Pedro will take 3-4 hours. During this descent we will be treated to magnificent views of the lake. We will reach San Pedro La Laguna at the end of the morning.

What to bring: Hiking boots, well-fitting big trekking-backpack, warm clothes you can take off layer by layer, sunscreen, sunglasses, flashlight, rain gear, hat, toilet paper, toiletries, towel, camera and binoculars if necessary. If you want you can bring your own camping gear. But try to travel light!

Included: Transport to starting point, 1 night basic accommodation in a rural village, 1 night camping on the Rostro Maya, guide, equipment, 7 meals and purified water.
